More about HCT’s An Inspector Calls – In this gripping production, the mysterious Inspector Goole, portrayed by Joe Carmolli, arrives unexpectedly at the Birling family's lavish home. As he interrogates the wealthy family about their involvement in the tragic death of a young woman, secrets begin to unravel, exposing deep-rooted hypocrisy and moral failure. What starts as a seemingly routine investigation soon escalates into a shocking series of revelations that will leave audiences' wondering who didn’t have a hand in the tragedy.
With a story that probes issues of social responsibility, morality, and the consequences of actions, An Inspector Calls remains as relevant today as it was when it premiered in 1945. As the Birling family’s dark secrets unfold, the audience will be forced to reflect on their own choices and the impact they have on others. It’s a provocative, intense theatrical experience that’s not to be missed.
In the words of director, Lexee Bouman, “‘We don’t live alone.’ This is the key theme from the show. How we all make decisions that directly impact the lives of others around us, whether good or bad. This show is beautifully revealing in holding people accountable for their actions. My hope is we all walk away from the show having a little bit more compassion, humility and patience for humanity. Travel back with us to an English affluent home in 1912. You will face drama and justice in this historically eclectic black box setting. I’ve chosen a black box design with period props to enhance the vulnerability and mystery within the script and to focus the audience's attention on the story itself. Thank you for supporting this incredible cast and crew. We’ve worked tirelessly to bring an honest show to this stage! Enjoy.”
The production is enhanced by period-perfect vintage props, courtesy of Stephanie Higginbottom, Owner and CEO of the Saugatuck Antique Pavilion, who has generously provided a range of antique items that transport the audience straight to the early 20th century. The set, costume, and prop design all work in harmony to create an authentic atmosphere that will make the era come alive on stage.
