More about HCT’s Big Fish: School Edition – Based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film by Tim Burton, Big Fish: School Edition follows the fantastical life of Edward Bloom, brought to life by long time HCT performer, Sylus Day. Edward is a charismatic storyteller whose larger-than-life tales take center stage at every family gathering–he claims his past is full of witches, giants, mermaids and more! When Edward’s pragmatic son Will (portrayed by Will Remenschneider) prepares to start a family of his own, he becomes determined to separate fact from fiction and discover the truth behind his father’s larger-than-life tales. What follows is a heartfelt and magical journey that explores the complexity of parent-child relationships, the legacy we leave behind, and the enduring power of imagination.
With show-stopping numbers like “Be the Hero,” “Fight the Dragons,” and “I Don’t Need a Roof,” music directed by HCT mainstay Sue Ann Culp and playful choreography by local talent Olivia Randall, this vibrant production will have audiences tapping their toes and humming for days. The teen cast has poured three months of hard work, creativity, and passion into crafting a theatrical experience that’s equal parts spectacle and soul. Whether you’re a longtime HCT supporter or a first-time visitor, we hope you’ll come laugh, cry and sing along with us!
In the words of director Michael T. Culp, “From the moment the lights come up, audiences will be swept away by heartfelt performances, stunning visuals, and toe-tapping songs. This show is a true showcase of the creativity, talent, and passion of our teen cast, and I couldn’t be prouder of the world they’ve built onstage.”
