More about HCT’s Peter and the Starcatcher – Based on the best-selling novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, this Tony Award–winning play by Rick Elice, with music by Wayne Barker, is a thrilling prequel to Peter Pan that reveals how one lonely orphan became the legendary “Boy Who Could Fly.” With pirates, mermaids, shipwrecks, and a treasure trunk full of magic “starstuff,” this imaginative tale follows Peter and Molly, a brave and brilliant young Starcatcher apprentice. Together, they set out to keep the powerful “starstuff” from falling into the wrong hands.
Under the direction of Jim Griffin and musical direction by Sue Ann Culp, HCT’s production leans fully into the joy of storytelling. A talented ensemble of performers brings the world of Peter and the Starcatcher to life with boundless creativity, breaking traditional casting norms to capture the wonder and spontaneity of imagination at play. With a clever, minimalist set, live foley sound effects, and spellbinding musical moments, this production celebrates the childlike magic that lives in all of us.
This whimsical adventure stars newcomer Alex Velazquez as Molly, Tray Cherry as Peter, and long-time HCT favorite Michael Culp as the delightfully over-the-top pirate Black Stache. Together with a talented ensemble, they bring laughter, heart, and holiday magic to a story that reminds us what it means to grow up—and what we lose when we forget to dream.
“Peter and the Starcatcher is a perfect outing for families, dreamers, and anyone who believes in the power of imagination,” says director Jim Griffin. “It’s a fun adventure for kids who can’t wait to grow up and for parents who remember what it’s like to be young and brave. Our team of actors and crew has been hard at work putting together a magical production for audiences to enjoy over the holiday season. We can’t wait to show you our starstuff!”
